Rotary Club of Calcutta Pointers Takes CPR Training to Community Members

Sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anytime, anywhere.

Rotary Club of Calcutta Pointers has embarked on organising CPR Training Program, to empower community members with a simple yet powerful skill that can save lives.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency life‑saving technique that helps maintain blood circulation and oxygen to the brain until medical help arrives. Immediate CPR can double or triple survival chances. CPR training builds safer, more responsive communities and empowers ordinary citizens to act with confidence.

Rotary Club of Calcutta Pointers and USV Pharma, a trusted name in biomedical and pharmaceutical innovation in India, conducted the first of these camps on 1st Feb 2026 for the residents of AE Block, Salt Lake.

American Heart Association (AHA) certified healthcare professional from Stemi India provided hands-on training to the large group of enthusiastic participants from all age group. Many of the participants practiced the technique on the mannequin under the guidance of the instructor.
The participants agreed in unison that it was an extremely useful training and the CPR is a life-saving skill that more and more people should learn because “every second counts”.

A session on Thalassemia Awareness was also conducted by RTN. Dr. Ramendu Homchaudhuri, District Governor RID 3291, and RTN. DR. Sujoy Majumdar in the same camp. Participants were informed that Thalassemia is an inherited (i.e., passed from parents to children through genes) blood disorder that can be deadly. Thalassemia can be prevented by focussing on carrier screening (premarital/preconception), genetic counselling, and prenatal diagnosis to stop the inheritance of Thalassemia Major.
The Rotary Club of Calcutta Pointers continues to strengthen its commitment to community health by collaborating with leading healthcare providers ad specialists to address preventable and treatable causes of illness. Through initiatives such as this, the Club aims to empower communities with knowledge that can save lives and potentially prevent tragic consequences.
