Kolkata, 28 August 2026: The Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata, is set to host AVIONIX 2026 – Student Drone Competition, a unique platform designed to showcase the creativity, engineering skills and technological innovation of young students in the rapidly emerging field of drone technology.
The two-day competition will be organized on 28th and 29th August 2026 at the IEM Management Building, Kolkata, by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with the SAE-IEM Collegiate Club and the IEI-IEM Student Chapter, Mechanical Engineering Division.
AVIONIX 2026 aims to bring together student innovators and drone enthusiasts to experience the practical application of engineering principles through an exciting and challenging competition. Participants will get an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in drone design, flight control, precision, piloting, problem-solving, innovation and teamwork.
With a total prize money of ₹40,000, along with certificates and recognition, the competition is expected to attract enthusiastic participation from students interested in unmanned aerial systems and emerging technologies. The event is designed not merely as a competition but as a platform for experiential learning, innovation and technology-driven problem solving.
The event is being coordinated by a team comprising Prof. (Dr.) Dwaipayan De, Prof. (Dr.) Rahul Baidya, Dr. Abanti Datta, Dr. Aparajita Mukherjee, Dr. Subho Mukherjee and Prof. Rituparna Biswas.
The organizers believe that AVIONIX 2026 will encourage students to move beyond conventional classroom learning and develop practical skills in aerial robotics, embedded systems, control engineering, mechanical design and autonomous technologies.
The event will also provide an opportunity for students, faculty members and technology enthusiasts to interact, exchange ideas and explore the future possibilities of drone-based technologies.
AVIONIX 2026 is poised to be a celebration of engineering innovation, youthful creativity and the future of unmanned aerial technology, reinforcing IEM’s commitment to hands-on technical education and emerging technological advancements.
