

Kolkata Nivedita Shakti (KNS), a national movement for women through science and technology, dedicated to women’s empowerment and social development, successfully celebrated its 15th Annual day on June 11, 2026, at the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Kolkata. The day-long programme, held from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., brought together eminent scientists, academicians, medical professionals, social workers, researchers, and students on a common platform to promote scientific awareness, health education, and social responsibility.
The programme commenced with an invocation, floral tributes to Sister Nivedita, and a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Sampa Das, President of Kolkata Nivedita Shakti and former Senior Scientist of Bose Institute. The vision, achievements, and various social initiatives of the organization were subsequently highlighted by Dr. Reeta Bhattacharya, National Vice-President Shakti and founder KNS.
The inaugural session was graced by distinguished personalities. The Chief Guest was Prof. Dr Parul Chakraborty, renowned senior scientist, former faculty member of Bose Institute, and Trustee-Coordinator of the J. C. Bose Science Heritage Museum. The session was chaired by Dr. Archana Majumdar, member of KNS and former Member of the National Commission for Women.
A major highlight of the convention was the Technical Session on “One Health”, an interdisciplinary concept emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.
The academic session underscored the importance of collaborative approaches in addressing contemporary health challenges and promoting sustainable well-being.
Experts from diverse disciplines including Pulmonology, Veterinary Microbiology, Cancer Research, Homoeopathy, Ayurveda, and Fisheries Science delivered insightful lectures.
The speakers included Dr. Rumdeep Kaur Grewal, Dr. Angira Dasgupta, Dr. Indranil Samanta, Dr. Sutapa Mukherjee, Dr. Sukanya Mitra, Dr. Madhumita Majumdar, Dr. Archana Sinha, and Dr. Rakhi Ray. Their presentations highlighted the significance of integrated healthcare systems and the role of scientific research in improving public health.
To encourage scientific temper and innovation among young scholars and to run a Poster Presentation Session was organized, providing an opportunity for researchers to showcase their work and interact with experts.
The session received enthusiastic appreciation from participants and attendees alike.
The Valedictory Address was delivered by Justice Samapti Chatterjee, former Judge of the Calcutta High Court, who spoke on the importance of ethical leadership, social commitment, and women’s participation in nation-building.
The programme concluded with a vibrant cultural programme. Mrs. Krishna Mahajan enthralled the audience with recitations from Rabindranath Tagore’s Kshanika. This was followed by soulful Rabindra Sangeet performances by Dr. Swagata Ghosh and Mrs. Manjulika Guha Thakurta, which added a rich cultural dimension to the event.
The successful celebration ended with the rendition of the national song “Vande Mataram” and the National Anthem, leaving participants inspired by the ideals of Sister Nivedita and reaffirming the organization’s commitment to scientific awareness, women’s leadership, and social transformation.
The 15th Annual Day celebration of Kolkata Nivedita Shakti thus emerged as a meaningful confluence of science, health, culture, and service, carrying forward the message of holistic development and empowered citizenship with scientific temper.
