Ruby Cancer Centre Organises Massive Breast Cancer Awareness Rally in Kolkata

Kolkata, 31 October 2026: Reinforcing its decade-long commitment to breast cancer awareness, early detection and timely treatment, Ruby Cancer Centre, a unit of Ruby General Hospital, successfully organised a massive breast cancer awareness rally in Kolkata on Saturday. The rally commenced from Ruby General Hospital at 9 am and witnessed the participation of more than 350 people, including 15 cancer survivors and their family members, doctors, healthcare professionals, nursing students and prominent personalities from various fields.

Breast cancer continues to be one of the most prevalent forms of cancer among women in India. According to estimates cited by the Centre, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every four minutes, while one life is lost to the disease every eight minutes. Despite growing awareness, a considerable number of patients are still diagnosed at advanced stages, highlighting the urgent need for regular screening and timely medical intervention.

The rally aimed to spread awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and encourage women to prioritise their breast health. Medical experts highlighted that although genetic factors, obesity and lifestyle choices may contribute to the risk, breast cancer can also develop without any identifiable risk factors.

The clinical team at Ruby Cancer Centre emphasised that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. Warning signs such as painless lumps, changes in breast skin, nipple discharge and alterations in breast shape should never be ignored and require prompt medical evaluation. The Centre also stressed the importance of regular clinical breast examinations and mammography, encouraging women to remain aware of changes in their bodies and seek medical advice without delay.

The awareness initiative received enthusiastic support from eminent personalities from the cultural, entertainment, academic and sporting communities. Among those present were actors and cultural personalities Phalguni Chatterjee, Sudeshna Roy, Chandan Sen, Arijit Dutta, Nandini Chatterjee, Vicky Nandi, Sree Bhattacharya, Aryuun Ghosh, Subhrajit Datta, Arindam Ganguly, Saikat Mitra, Soumitra Talapatra, Satrajit Sen, Abhimanyu Mukherjee, Anjan Prasad Majumdar, Prof. Amita Dutt and Anilava Chatterjee. Renowned archer and sporting personality Dola Banerjee also joined the initiative, extending her support to the cause.

Since 2014, Ruby Cancer Centre, in association with Ruby General Hospital and the Ruby Cancer Care & Research Foundation, has consistently undertaken public awareness and educational initiatives to promote cancer prevention, early diagnosis and access to timely treatment.

By bringing together cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, nursing students and prominent public figures, the rally once again highlighted the collective responsibility of society in combating breast cancer. Ruby Cancer Centre reiterated its commitment to providing compassionate cancer care and creating a more informed, empowered and cancer-aware society.
