Launch of Dr. Vivekananda Chakraborty’s ‘Prose Collection’ on Rabindranath’s Life and Works

The first volume of “Prose Collection”, an anthology of essays on the life and vast literary creations of Rabindranath Tagore, authored by eminent Rabindrik research scholar and National Award-winning teacher Dr. Vivekananda Chakraborty, was officially launched at a grand ceremony held at the Birla Planetarium Seminar Hall, Kolkata.

The book was formally unveiled by Ananda Award-winning writer and Rabindrik researcher Dr. Purnendubikash Sarkar, in the presence of distinguished guests from the worlds of education, literature, and culture.

Dr. Chakraborty, who has been writing for over four decades in various newspapers and magazines, has compiled fifty of his scholarly articles in this first volume. The collection highlights Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy, creative consciousness, insights, and contemplations, while delving into the enduring essence of Rabindra-literature.

Born on May 5, 1963, in Puruniya village of undivided Medinipur district (now Paschim Medinipur), Dr. Chakraborty hails from a family steeped in the traditions of Sanskrit language and literature. He holds honorary Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate, and D.Litt. degrees in English Literature, and has authored twelve books to date. His literary brilliance and contributions to Rabindrik studies have earned him wide recognition, including the prestigious ‘National Teacher Award’, conferred upon him by the then President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, on September 5, 2016.

The book launch witnessed an impressive gathering of eminent personalities, including Bengali cultural activist Dr. Parthasarathy Mukherjee, Principal of Basantidevi College Dr. Indrila Guha, Professor Dr. Debyani Bhowmik (Chakraborty), Protocol Officer of Mongolian Embassy Shovan Chakraborty, Lawyer Mita Banerjee, Additional Superintendent of Police Shanti Das, Rotary Club (Kasba) President Dr. Suresh Kumar Agarwal, M.C.K.E.V. Group of Colleges CEO and Lion MAGNATE President Dr. Parthasarathy Chakraborty, Rotarian Directors Payal Varma, Jayanta Chowdhury, Pranati, and LIONS members Chandan and Sangita Das.

The evening was seamlessly anchored by Asish Basak, Editor-Director of Hello Kolkata and a noted socio-cultural motivator.

In recognition of his outstanding literary contributions, Dr. Vivekananda Chakraborty was felicitated with the “Kriti Utkarsh Samman (Achievers Excellence Award)”, jointly presented by Lions Club of Kolkata Magnets, Hello Kolkata (News), and Rotary Club of Kasba.

The launch of “Prose Collection – First Volume” marks a significant milestone in Rabindrik literary studies, celebrating the timeless relevance of Tagore through the dedicated scholarship of Dr. Chakraborty.
