MN Raj’s ‘Jannat – A Tale of Destiny’ Brings a New Love Story to the Big Screen

Gourab and Rupsa Mukherjee pair up in a romantic drama slated for release in November

Kolkata: “Everyone falls in love, but how many can truly love?” Embracing this poignant sentiment, filmmaker MN Raj is set to bring a new Bengali romantic drama, Jannat – A Tale of Destiny, to the silver screen this November. The film features actor Gourab and actress Rupsa Mukherjee in the lead roles. The first looks of the characters have already been unveiled, with Gourab portraying Rahul.

At the heart of the narrative is Jannat, a modern Muslim young woman who works for a corporate organisation and leads a contemporary lifestyle, yet wears a hijab when she steps outdoors. Her closest family members are her elder brother Ali and sister-in-law Rukshana, who have raised her with affection and care, treating her as their own daughter in the absence of their parents.

Although Ali is a kind-hearted individual, he adopts a stringent stance when it comes to his younger sister’s marriage. Rahul, meanwhile, is an unemployed young man whose daily routine revolves around spending time with his friend Rahim in the neighbourhood, playing carrom and sleeping. Despite his efforts to find employment, success continues to elude him.

Fate brings Rahul and Jannat together, and their acquaintance gradually blossoms into a romantic relationship. However, their growing affection encounters its greatest obstacle in Ali, whose strict views and plans for his sister threaten to derail their love story.

Will Rahul and Jannat overcome familial opposition and unite, or will their relationship remain unfulfilled under Ali’s influence? The emotional conflict between love, family expectations and personal choices forms the central thread of the film, building anticipation around the couple’s ultimate destiny.

The film also features an ensemble cast comprising Kharaj Mukherjee, Biswanath Basu, Supriyo Dutta, Tulika Basu, Debranjan Nag and Jami Bandyopadhyay, among others.

The music is composed by Ayush Das, with vocals by Raj Barman, Ishan Mitra, Manashi Ghosh, Ankita Bhattacharyya and Chaitiparna De.

Blending romance, emotional intensity and familial conflict, Jannat – A Tale of Destiny is scheduled to arrive in cinemas in November 2026. Directed by MN Raj, the film explores whether love can triumph over social expectations and the formidable barriers imposed by family.
