Renewed Demand for Installation of Thakur Panchanan Varma’s Statue in Salt Lake, Kolkata

The demand for the installation of a full-length statue of Thakur Panchanan Varma, a prominent social reformer of North-East India and regarded as the father of the Kshatriya dynasty, has once again gained momentum in Kolkata.

The The Cooch Behar Kshatriya Society had earlier submitted applications twice to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, seeking permission to install the statue in the state capital. However, no approval has yet been granted by the State Government.

The Society has clearly demanded that it be permitted to install a full-length statue of Thakur Panchanan Varma on the island near Cooch Behar Bhawan in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Members of the organization have stated that the entire cost of the installation will be borne by the Society itself.

To reiterate their demand, a joint press conference was held on February 28, 2026, at the Kolkata Press Club, organized by The Cooch Behar Kshatriya Society and the Calcutta Kshatriya Samiti.

The meeting was attended by Mrs. Annamayi Adhikari, President of The Cooch Behar Kshatriya Society, Secretary Subhadeep Sarkar, and Shri Dhirendra Nath Barma, Secretary of Calcutta Kshatriya Samiti, along with several other leaders from both organizations.

Ardent followers expressed hope that installing the statue of this great leader in the state capital would help people learn more about Thakur Panchanan Varma and his contributions to society. They believe that his life philosophy has the potential to foster unity and bring greater social harmony in today’s fragmented society.
