‘Saraswati Samman’ Presented by Jharna Bhattacharjee to Promote Cultural and Linguistic Harmony.

In a remarkable cultural initiative aimed at restoring respect for language and fostering a healthy social mindset, ‘Saraswati Bhandar’—founded by noted cultural figure and social thinker Jharna Bhattacharjee—organized a special felicitation ceremony at the Kolkata Press Club.

The event, titled ‘Saraswati Samman’, honoured several eminent personalities from the fields of art, culture, and education who have contributed significantly to the promotion and preservation of the Bengali language. These individuals, through their creative works, have continuously inspired society to value linguistic identity amidst rising concerns over what Bhattacharjee terms as “language terrorism.”

Speaking at the event, Jharna Bhattacharjee, who also serves as the Cultural Ambassador of the Lions Club of Kolkata Magnates, remarked,

“The State Government has taken commendable steps like the Lakshmi Bhandar project for economic welfare. But as citizens, we also need ‘Saraswati’—in our thoughts, speech and intellect. That’s why ‘Saraswati Bhandar’ was created. Today, in an age where language is being weaponized to divide minds and create social unrest, we must unite to foster awareness. Media, politics, and administration—everyone must act with responsibility.”

The event was supported by notable organizations including Lions Club of Kolkata Magnates and Rotary Club of Kasba, who appreciated the vision behind Saraswati Bhandar’s initiatives.

Since its inception, Saraswati Bhandar has been committed to the upliftment of linguistic values, promotion of cultural education, and restoration of respectful communication in society. As the election season intensifies, Bhattacharjee announced the relaunch of the initiative with renewed focus and commitment.

The ceremony was not only a tribute to the champions of Bengali language and culture but also a clarion call to resist the dilution of civil discourse. The Saraswati Samman hopes to encourage more individuals to participate in the creation of a more thoughtful, informed, and united society.
