“Mindscape: Conversations for Change” — A Celebration of Mental Wellness and Inclusion at Indian Museum, Kolkata

In a remarkable celebration of World Mental Health Day, the Mental Health Society (MHS) organized a thought-provoking and compassionate event titled “Mindscape: Conversations for Change” at the Indian Museum, Kolkata. The program beautifully combined awareness, creativity, and community spirit to promote open conversations about mental well-being.

Mental Health Society is founded by Namrata Bhowmik, an RCI-registered Consultant Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology.

MHS has been working toward creating a stigma-free society since its inception in 2023. What began as an online initiative has now grown into a full-fledged wellness center located at Dumdum Cantonment.

The “Mindscape” event was curated and led by Suchismita Chakraborty, Administrative Manager and Senior Psychologist at MHS, whose guidance ensured a seamless blend of education, therapy, and art.

The day-long celebration brought together people from all walks of life to challenge stigma, build empathy and celebrate the power of understanding.

The inaugural program witnessed a musical performance by neurodiverse children, symbolising the beauty of diversity, resilience and creative expression.

Then a lively Panel Discussion took place on the topic “Embracing Neurodiversity: Rethinking Inclusion in Education, Workplace, and Society”. The Panelists were Emili Banerjee, Sumitra Paul Bakshi, Dhoopchhaya Majumder, Mohini Ojha, Nilanjana Rambothu and Dr. RudraJit Sinha Moderator was Debdutta Mandal, Program Coordinator at MHS.

Second Panel Discussion was on “Impact of Social Dynamics on the Mental Health of Children and Young Adults”, moderated by Debangana Bhattacharya.

The Panelists included Minali Sehdev, Dr. Madhurima Dasgupta, Sudipa Bardhan Mazumdar, Shreyashi Bhaumik Sinha, Ruplekha Sinha Roy, Poulami Pal and Asish Basak.

There was an interesting session, featuring eminent psychologists like Jonaki Mukherjee, Siddhartha Sanyal, Papri Das, psychiatrists like Dr. Arka Adhvaryu, Dr. Supratik Kundu, Dr. Arundhati Biswas, Dr. Anindita Mukherjee, Dr. Nilanjana Mitra. They explored vital conversations around inclusivity, empathy, and evolving perspectives on mental health. It was coordinated by Resource Coordinator Indrani Karmakar.

The day-long event by Mental Health Society also had Alternative Therapy Sessions, interactive sessions on Music Therapy, Art Therapy and Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) by expert practitioners highlight the healing potential of creative expression. Each session was designed to nurture emotional balance and holistic growth.

Special Guests of the program included Alokananda Roy – Dancer & Social Reformer, RJ Aritra – Popular Radio Personality, Ishan Porel – Indian Cricketer, Aradhana Chatterjee – Digital Influencer, Kolaj Sengupta – Actor and others.

As the sun set over the Indian Museum lawns, the evening resonated with music, smiles and a sense of unity, brought forth by a soulful performance by Bengali Folk Band ‘Shobdo Kolpo Droom’.

This unique celebration promoted harmony of mind, music and all-inclusive community — capturing the true essence of “Mindscape”, an initiative that reaffirmed Mental Health Society’s mission to create a world where mental health conversations are open, compassionate and stigma-free.
