“Ritu-Pointer” — A Soulful Evening of Tribute to the evergreen Rituparno Ghosh by ASPEXS at South Point
In a heartfelt tribute to one of its most illustrious alumni, South Point Junior School hosted a unique cultural evening titled “Ritu-Pointer” in memory of the legendary filmmaker, writer and cultural icon Rituparno Ghosh.
Organized by the South Point Alumni Association (ASPEXS), the event formed part of the school’s annual year-end celebrations, turning the spotlight on the creative legacy of a student who left an indelible mark on Indian cinema and literature.
Held on the school’s premises, the evening brought together art, memory, and tribute in an immersive experience of music, poetry, and reflective discussions centered around Rituparno’s grand bouquet of creative work.
The event featured three distinguished speakers:
-
Arghya Kamal Mitra, acclaimed film editor
-
Anindya Chatterjee, celebrated singer
-
Pratim D. Gupta, renowned filmmaker
Each brought a unique perspective on the multifaceted brilliance and cultural significance of Rituparno Ghosh, offering insights into her contributions to Indian cinema and her enduring influence on storytelling and representation.
Adding to the evening’s charm were performances and recollections by other notable alumni of South Point, who paid tribute through songs, recitations, and personal anecdotes about Rituparno’s early life and time at school — painting a poignant portrait of the artist as both student and visionary.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghnath Roy Chowdhury, Honorary Secretary of ASPEXS, said:
“Rituparno Ghosh is not only our pride, she is an integral part of our culture. This evening was an expression of our deep respect and love for her.”
Beyond a mere commemorative event, “Ritu-Pointer” became a celebration of nostalgia, unity and cultural pride, as alumni reunited to honor a shared past and the extraordinary legacy of a fellow Pointer.
The evening was not just remembered — it was felt deeply, and will remain etched in the hearts of all who were present, as a moving chapter of connection, reverence, and artistic celebration.
