Barisha Sammilani Sarbajanin Durgotsab won 3 top Awards

Barisha Sammilani Sarbajanin Durgotsab had won 3 prestigious Puja Parikrama Awards from HELLO KOLKATA, LIONS Club Of Kolkata MAGNATES and Rotary Club Of Kasba.

Social worker Prakash Killa, LION Magnate Sangita Das, actress-model Keya Chakraborty, National Press Council Secretary Arijit Sarkar, veteran engineer Kanchan Das, educationist LION Magnate Dr. Shanoli Ray, social workers Prakash & Arpita Killa and social influencer Asish Basak felicitated the Puja Committee officials of Barisha Sammilani Durgotsav, Behala.

Established in 1971, Barisha Sammilani Sarbajanin Durgotsab in the last 54 years has been able to organise and celebrate Durga Puja with pride and valour at Narayan Roy Road, Barisha, Kolkata 700 008 in the most preserved traditional way.

Barisha is one of the oldest Boroughs of Kolkata located in the South-Western part of the Metropolis. Amidst the heart of all cultural activities in West Bengal it is known to be a major educational and cultural hub.

BSSD has won several prizes for its rich heritage and culture. Around 4-5 lakh spectators visit BSSD complex during Durga Puja with great interest during the festive days.

Digging deeper in history on Barisha takes us back to the Pala era when this was once a small village, before Dhananjay Mitra settled here in the 12th century. It became a center of religious and cultural significance under the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family, who established the oldest Durga Puja in Bengal in 1610 and later transferred jagirdari rights to the British in 1698.

The area is now known for its historic temples and heritage style ‘Sabeki’ Durga Pujas, the Sabarna Roy Choudhury family’s ancestral homes, and its role as a foundation for modern educational institutions like Barisha High School, founded by the  immortal Vidyasagar.
