
Wrestling Championship 2025 Held in Memory of Late Prof. Dr. Lina S. Chakraborty
The prestigious ‘WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2025’ was successfully organized by the West Bengal Wrestling Association (WBWA) in collaboration with the LIONS CLUB OF KOLKATA MAGNATES, supported by HELLO KOLKATA (3-Dimensional News Media) and ROTARY CLUB OF KASBA. The grand sporting event was held at the historic Panchanan Bayam Samity, a heritage wrestling arena located in Jorabagan Park, North Kolkata, on the evening of 6th September.
The championship was dedicated to the cherished memory of Late Prof. Dr. Lina S. Chakraborthy, a renowned English litterateur, as an expression of respect and homage. The event was supported and sponsored by Prof. Dr. Parthasarathi Chakraborthy, President of the LIONS CLUB OF MAGNATES, in fond remembrance of his late wife.
Chief Organizer Sovan Chakraborty, Secretary of WBWA and Hon. Convenor of LIONS MAGNATES, revealed that around 70 wrestlers, aged between 5 and 18 years, participated in this highly competitive and physically demanding tournament. The event was designed to encourage young talent and promote traditional wrestling culture.
The program was graced by several distinguished guests, including internationally acclaimed Wrestling Guru Ashit Saha (Vice-President of Wrestling Federation of India), Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Das, Arunangshu Saha (Vice-President of WBWA), technical consultant Sudip Chakraborty, and notable social workers Manoj Thakur, Mousumi Basu, Sanchita Das, Tapas Chowdhury, Subhajit Duttagupta, Prakash Killa, Samit Saha, Ashok Raj Barui, among others.
Nandan Debnath served as the Tournament Director, while Sweta Dubey was the Chief Referee for the event. The championship also received generous support from Dr. Nataraj Ray (Past President of ISTD), Soma Chakraborty (Founder of Goodace Hospital), Saptarshi Biswas (MD of Novacle Technologies), Dr. Suresh Agarwal (Chairman of Pragyan Foundation), along with the welfare organizations We Are The Common People and Swapnapuran Welfare Trust.
Social influencer and esteemed Rotarian Lion Asish Basak, Chief Patron of the event, remarked that the championship perfectly aligned with the altruistic vision and mission of the organization: ‘Service To All’.
In his vote of thanks, Prof. Dr. Parthasarathi Chakraborthy emphasized the significance of wrestling as a perfect blend of physical fitness and strategic mental skill, encouraging youth participation in this age-old sport.
The event concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impression on both participants and spectators, while honoring the legacy of Late Prof. Dr. Lina S. Chakraborty.
