Kolkata, October 5, 2026: South City International School hosted a special Classical Musical Session, bringing together its young musicians for an engaging celebration of the richness, diversity and enduring appeal of Indian music.
The highlight of the session was a captivating contemporary classical fusion performance by 60 students from Classes 3 to 11, who performed under the group name ‘Taal Tarang’. Mentored by Mr. Arindam Burman, the young musicians presented an innovative blend of Indian classical traditions and Western musical elements, reflecting their dedication, discipline, coordination and passion for music.
The performance was organised as part of the school’s cultural festival by Kolkata Music Tradition, in collaboration with Eternal Sounds and South City International School. Through the presentation, the students explored the depth and versatility of Indian classical music while giving the traditional forms a contemporary interpretation.
The musical journey began with ‘Albela Sajan Aayo Re’ and concluded with ‘Garaj Garaj Aayo’, incorporating instruments such as sarod, flute and tabla alongside guitar and drums. The seamless combination of diverse musical elements created a vibrant and engaging experience for the audience.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vishal Bhandari, Principal, South City International School, said, “Music plays an important role in the holistic development of young minds, nurturing creativity, discipline, confidence and emotional expression. The performance by 60 of our students as ‘Taal Tarang’ beautifully reflected their dedication, teamwork and passion for music. Under the mentorship of Mr. Arindam Burman, our students were able to explore classical traditions while presenting them through an exciting fusion format. We are proud of their efforts and hope such opportunities continue to inspire them to pursue their artistic potential.”
Mrs. Mahua Chakraborty, Head of Performing Arts and Marketing, South City International School, said, “Today, 60 of our students from Classes 3 to 11 presented a contemporary classical fusion performance at our school’s cultural festival, organised by Kolkata Music Tradition in collaboration with Eternal Sounds and South City International School. Music is a universal language that deeply resonates with young minds and bridges cultural gaps. To showcase how classical traditions remain dynamic and relatable today, our students blended Indian classical forms with Western elements—starting with ‘Albela Sajan Aayo Re’ and ending with ‘Garaj Garaj Aayo’—combining sarod, flute and tabla with guitar and drums.”
The session underscored South City International School’s commitment to holistic education, providing students with opportunities to explore their artistic abilities beyond the classroom and connect with India’s rich cultural heritage.
Through ‘Taal Tarang’, the young musicians demonstrated that traditional musical forms can be presented through innovative and contemporary interpretations without losing their cultural essence. The performance concluded amid warm appreciation from the audience, celebrating the students’ collective effort, musical talent and enthusiasm.
