“Care For The Old”: A Wake-Up Call from ABMF on the Silent Struggles of the Elderly

As the world prepared to observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Father’s Day, the All Bengal Men’s Forum (ABMF) chose to shine a light on a subject too often neglected — the lives of our elderly citizens. Through their initiative titled “Care For The Old”, ABMF delivered a stirring reminder: growing older should be met with comfort, not fear.

The session, themed “Be Comfortable With Growing Older”, was more than a discussion — it was a call to conscience. Held in the presence of a knowledgeable and passionate panel, the event gave space to raw, heartfelt narratives and pressing concerns that many elderly citizens silently endure.

Voices of authority and experience — including Dr. Dhiresh Chowdhury, Senior Advocate Jayant Narayan Chatterjee, Former IPS Sujay Kumar Chanda, Mrinal Biswas, and Dr. Debanjan Banerjee — spoke with clarity and compassion. They laid bare the reality: government schemes exist, but implementation is dismal; infrastructure is lacking, and awareness is minimal.

One recurring message echoed throughout the evening — change is possible, but only through collective action.

Leading this compassionate charge was Nandini Bhattacharya, an MRA of distinction, along with her team at ABMF. Their heartfelt efforts and determination to champion the cause of the elderly drew admiration and appreciation from all in attendance.
