World Boy Child Day commemorated by ABMF & AIBMF

In a heartfelt gathering at the Kolkata Press Club, members of the All Bengal Men’s Forum (ABMF) and the All India Boys & Men’s Forum (AIBMF) came together to mark World Boy Child Day — a day dedicated to the emotional, mental, and social well-being of boys across the world.

Celebrated every year on May 16, the day serves as a reminder that boys, too, face challenges that need acknowledgment and action. This year’s theme, “Building Self-Esteem in Boys: Stand Up, Be Seen, Be Heard,” focused on empowering boys to express themselves, grow confidently, and be active, valued members of society.

“Let’s take a moment to reflect on the needs of boys — in our families, schools, and communities,” said MRA Nandini Bhattacharjee, a key voice at the event. “This isn’t about competing with girls. It’s about creating a more inclusive world where both boys and girls can thrive side by side.”

The observance shed light on the often overlooked pressures boys face — from societal expectations to emotional suppression. Speakers emphasized that real change begins at home: by spending quality time with sons, grandsons, and young boys, and encouraging their passions and individuality.

Attendees were encouraged to take the day as an opportunity to celebrate boyhood — to recognize the value boys bring to families and communities, and to support them in becoming kind, confident, and self-assured individuals.

As the event concluded, a common message echoed through the room: “Empowerment isn’t gendered — it’s human. And boys, like all children, deserve the chance to be heard, seen, and supported.”
